“Migration Safari” the most amazing natural show in Africa
Are the holidays approaching, and are you looking for an unforgettable natural experience? Tanzania offers you the best wildlife spectacle in the heart of the African savannah, ‘The Great migration,’ where millions of wildebeest and zebras traverse Serengeti National Park in search of green pastures. Would you like to live this incredible experience?
What is the great migration?
This phenomenon is determined by the rains allowing tender grass to grow and the herds of millions of wildebeest and zebras go after it to feed and after them the predators. Usually used to have an annual calendar, which is still maintained, but has been impacted by climate change, so we recommend you consult your agent to schedule your trip well.
Mara river crossing
One of the most famous milestones during the migration is the crossing of the herds of animals at the Mara River, which typically occurs between the months of July to September in Northern Tanzania.
Hoopoe, in collaboration with Kirurumu Under Canvas, offers strategic locations to witness the Great Migration throughout the year through its two mobile camps. One is located in Seronera, in Central Serengeti, during periods when the animals occupy the Central and Northwest Serengeti (October-November and May-June). Throughout the rest of the year, our migration mobile camp moves between the northern Serengeti (Kogatende) from July to October and the southern park (Ndutu) from December to March.
The great migration all year round
If you don’t care about the crossing, but you do care about the Great Migration and you have time outside the high season, we recommend you to visit Tanzania to do safari, as you will find the Great Migration all year round. Be sure to get the information about dates, prices and ranges of the accommodation with our agents.
When and where to sleep to enjoy?
Our Hoopoe agents will help you plan your safari to find the best option, with varied accommodation options ranging from 3 to 5 stars, including our Tented Lodges, Kirurumu Under Canvas.
Hoopoe with Kirurumu Under Canvas have the best spots to see the great migration all year round, with its two mobile camps, one of them located in Seronera, Central Serengeti for when the animals are in Central and North-West Serengeti (October – November / May – June). For the rest of the year our Migration Mobile Camp moves between the north of Serengeti (Kogatende) between the months of July to October and south of the park (Ndutu) between December and March.
How many days of safari do I need to see the Great Migration?
This depends on the time of the year you visit Tanzania, if the migration is in the center or south, 5 to 7 days is enough. In the case of being in the north, 8 to 10 days are necessary because the distances to be covered are very long and the idea is to stop along the way in other parks to make the trip more enjoyable.
Which national parks does a migration safari consider?
If you do it only in Tanzania, we combine it with Tarangire and/or Manyara National Parks and Ngorongoro Crater, and then visit Serengeti.
